“#Striped: Promoting Adolescent Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being in Madrid Educational Centers”

Manantial Foundation, member of we are patientshas launched, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Youth of the Community of Madridthe project #Striped for the care of the mental health and emotional well-being in adolescence from educational centers.

The objective of the initiative is to develop an intervention socio-educational that improves knowledge and emotional management and the mental health of the population youngwho will be encouraged to participate for know their situation and involve them in transmitting to their peers that mental health care is a relevant issue that requires attention.

Specifically, the direct beneficiaries of the project will be 140 teenagers 14 and 14-year-olds from two Madrid educational centers to which, the Foundation explains, “we will provide information quality, resources and tools and we will propose to be speakers to reach other young people who may need them, in their own words and on their own channels.”

In total, and in addition to the direct beneficiaries, the initiative is expected to have a impact about 350 family members, 150 teachers y 1,500 students of the institutes in which it will be carried out.

The mental health and emotional well-being of young people has become a major societal concern following the pandemic. In fact, recently published studies indicate that one in three young with ages between 12 and 19 years old admits having felt emotional discomfort in the last 12 months, having registered a very significant increase in anxiety (27%), the depression (15%) and expressions of intense discomfort such as self harmthe latter causes up to 40% of hospital admissions in Psychiatric Units in this population.

Hence the importance of the #Rayadas project, which includes among its objectives addressing the relationship that young people have with relationship, information and communication technologies (TIRC) both for its positive potential, of support and information, as well as the risks that its problematic use.
