The 15-year-old student whose left hand had been severed 19 days ago upon leaving a high school in San Pedro de Macorís, received a medical discharge this Monday after a process of reinsertion and surgical rehabilitation.
During all this time, the young man was cared for by the surgical unit of the Salvador B. Gautier Hospital and after the care, which included first aid from a colleague who later expressed her desire to be a doctor, he has achieved an improvement that now allows him to move some of your fingers.
“We can say that up to now the hand has been reimplanted, it even already moves some fingers. Much remains to be done, it is one step at a time, now we have to take care of our hands”, said Armando José Holguín, director of the hospital.
Likewise, Dr. Severo Mercedes, who directs the surgical unit, affirmed that the percentage of recovery of hand mobility will depend entirely on the punctual evolution of the patient, who already has an appointment scheduled for two days from now; however, world statistics say that 60 to 70 percent could recover.
In this particular case, Mercedes assured that the service feels satisfied, since the oximetry, which she referred to as the arrival of oxygen at the fingertips, is one hundred percent, which is an indicator of evolutionary well-being.
“We are satisfied because the oximetry, which is the oxygen level that reaches the fingertips, is 100 percent and that guarantees us that, if the patient complies with his mandates and the indications that we are going to give, the results are going to be lengthening”, he affirmed.
Ana Santana, mother of the victim, expressed feeling “happy” for the support she has received from the medical center and the blessed process that her son has exhausted until he improves.

The family also said they were in complete agreement with the imposition of a year in pretrial detention that was attributed to alias Juan Manuel Cedano, alias “Manguito”, one of the defendants in what happened.
