The Sovereignty Council of Sudan announced its support for the approach proposed by the tripartite mechanism to reach an agreement between the Sudanese parties regarding the management of the transitional period in the country.
Member of the Sovereignty Council Ibrahim Jaber said, in a statement issued by the council after the meeting with the tripartite mechanism, that it was stressed the need to expedite the start and end of direct dialogue within a specified period of time.
He renewed the council’s full support for the efforts of the tripartite mechanism to make the dialogue between the Sudanese parties a success and facilitate its mission.
In this context, the African Union envoy, Mohamed El Hassan Ould Labbat, said that the mechanism confirmed during the meeting its readiness to expedite the political process and presented a detailed vision of its approach to the Sudanese political dialogue process, in which it plays the role of facilitator.
He explained that the mechanism urged the responsible authorities to take encouraging measures to hold the dialogue, especially the release of the remaining political detainees, especially those affiliated with the youth resistance committees, expressing satisfaction with the responses they received and the conclusions of the meeting.
The tripartite mechanism for resolving the crisis in Sudan held a meeting with the military component of the Sovereignty Council as part of its indirect meetings with the Sudanese parties to discuss accelerating the start of direct dialogue.
The United Nations Integrated Mission for the Support of the Transitional Phase in Sudan (UNITAMS), in addition to the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), are facilitating indirect talks with the Sudanese parties in order to restore civilian rule after the preparatory forum that I announced earlier could not be held due to a dispute over the participants. .
