“Summer vacationers flock to Marsa Matruh: Egypt Railway Authority prepares for increased travel”

Thousands of vacationers go to Marsa Matruh annually to enjoy its wonderful atmosphere in the summer, and in conjunction with the start of the summer season, the Railway Authority is preparing trains on the “Cairo-Marsa Matruh” line, to accommodate the densities of vacationers on the Matrouh line, within the framework of the National Authority for Egyptian Railways’ preparations for the summer season and revitalize Domestic tourism in Marsa Matrouh Governorate.

Last year, the authority operated train 775/774, departing from Marsa Matruh at 22:00 and arriving in Cairo at 05:15 the next day and continuing to operate daily. A third air-conditioned train 943/942 was operated, departing from Marsa Matrouh at 16:25 and arriving Cairo at 23:40 and continuing to operate daily. Train 773/772 was operated and departed from Cairo daily, at 23:35, and arrived in Marsa Matruh at 07:00 the next day. It continued to run daily with the following installation: “4 sleeping cars + 1 first Spanish air-conditioned carriage + 1 Spanish-conditioned second buffet carriage + 4 Spanish-conditioned second carriages + 1 A power vehicle”, and also a third air-conditioned train 939/940 was operated, provided that it departs from Cairo at 05:50 and arrives in Marsa Matruh at 13:40, and continues to operate daily with the installation of “a strong vehicle + 5 third air-conditioned vehicles + 1 (protection) vehicle.”

In the context, the Railway Authority paid 3 additional trains from Aswan to Cairo, to transport the returnees from Sudan, given the daily density of passengers at the Aswan station. This came to accommodate the density of returnees from Sudan and facilitate their movement from Upper Egypt to Cairo, in addition to preparing 2 Russian trains. A third reserve in Aswan to carry passengers at any time if necessary.
