Echelons of the trade unions, led by GSEE executives, will begin “targeted interventions in 30 prefectures of the country, with employee briefings and visits to workplaces, while television and radio spots are already being prepared, in order to communicate the demands and claims of the world of hired labor”.
As stated in a related announcement, the focus of the claims are wage increases, the taking of immediate measures to deal with punctuality, the suppression of profiteering, as well as the reinstatement of Collective Labor Agreements.
On the day of the 24-hour general strike on April 17, 2024, rallies will be held both in Athens – the central pan-Hellenic rally – and in all the major cities of the country.
The Panhellenic Federation of Accountants has decided on strike action and it will participate in its turn in the GSEE strike on April 17th and also on May 1st.
In his announcement they mention, among other things: The great strike on February 28 expressed the generalized indignation that exists in our homes, but also the anger at the attempt to cover up the responsibilities that all the bourgeois parties, the ND, SYRIZA, PASOK for the crime in Tempe. He sent a competitive message to employers and the government, that our lives are worth living! That we do not tolerate sacrificing the needs of the workers, the youth, the people, for the profits of the business groups!
We continue with even greater momentum the escalation of the fight in every workplace of the sector. We are preparing the nationwide – labor strikes on April 17 and May 1.
Their profits are not compatible with our lives!
We put our own needs first!
The power lies in organizing the workers. We are not waiting for the government or other late saviors. We strengthen the current of conflict, of questioning. Let our anger become an assertive force against the government and employers.
The Board of Directors of POL calls on all its member unions, all workers in the sector to take into their own hands the cause of the success of the nationwide general strike in April 17 and May 1 . To issue announcements, to organize meetings and assemblies in workplaces for the success of the strike, to set up union and strike committees.
EINAP, which covers the hospital doctors of Athens and Piraeus, has announced its participation in the 24-hour nationwide strike announced by GSEE for April 17.
In the relevant announcement it states that: “The EINAP Board of Directors announces a 24-hour strike on 04/17/24, the day of the general strike of private sector workers’ unions. We claim:
To stop the operation of the afternoon surgeries.
Doubling wages.
Doubling staff, permanent contract employees.
Doubling hospital funding.
Public and free health for all.
We call on ADEDY and OENGE to declare a 24-hour strike on 04/17/24″.
The presidents of ELME unanimously decided to continue the strike and teachers’ abstention from the evaluation, at the General Assembly, which took place on 30/3 in Athens, following a relevant proposal by the Board of OLME.
It is also noted that today, the Plenary Meeting of the Presidents of the Primary Education Teachers’ Associations has been scheduled, in order to ask the IOE to re-proclaim a strike-abstention against the evaluation.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 2, Deputy Minister Zetta Makri is going to meet the Boards of the IOE at 11.30 and the OLME at 13.00. It is recalled that, following a lawsuit filed by the Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the teachers’ strike-abstention from the evaluation was declared illegal by the Single-Member Court of First Instance of Athens on March 18, 2024.
The specific mobilization, which was the product of a decision by OLME, was not declared abusive by the court, as it ruled that there is no need to examine the relevant reasons for abuse.
The realization of a 24-hour pan-Hellenic strike on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, its General Council decided ADEDY at the meeting, which took place on 2 April 2024.
ADEDY’s requests
As stated in the relevant announcement of ADEDY, the contentious framework is as follows:
“- Horizontal increase of 10% in the salaries of the employees in the State, in order to deal elementary with accuracy and inflation.
- Restoring Gifts.
- Collective agreements on wages.
- Removal of the 2016–2017 biennium wage freeze.
- Abolition of the 2% unemployment levy.
- Increase of the tax-free allowance to 12,000 euros.
- Increase in unhealthy work allowance.
- Immediate staffing with permanent employees of all critical public bodies (health, education, social services, insurance, etc.) and upgrading of all necessary infrastructure”.
At the same time, the General Council of ADEDY decided to hold, in the next period, meetings and General Assemblies throughout the country, with the aim on the one hand of informing the colleagues and on the other hand of the better organization of the strike mobilization.
Also, the General Council of ADEDY decided the following:
“- Strike mobilization on Labor Day (May 1, 2024).
- The support of the mobilization of health workers (POEDIN-OENGE) on May 16, 2024.
- The support of the mobilizations of the educational federations that are taking place during this time with the strike-abstention from the evaluation.
- The support of the dismissed trade unionist, D. Antoniou, with a protest rally on Friday, April 5 at the E.K.P.A.”
