The city prepares for the biggest snowfall of the season

New York City and several towns around it are preparing to receive a snowstorm that threatens to wreak havoc.

“New York City will be right on the line where there will be a lot of snow and where there will be no snow at all,” said Mike Rawlins, a meteorologist for Fox News Weather.

Populations such as Long Island and the Hudson River Valley would be registering between 3 and 8 inches of snow, something close to 20 centimeters, which would generate chaos in the transportation service and in the mobility of citizens.

It is scheduled to start on Monday, February 27 in the afternoon and end in the morning of Tuesday, February 28.

Winter in New York hasn’t been as bad as in other years, so much so that the city broke a 50-year record for the longest seasonal drought without snow.

Suburbs located north of the city such as Westchester County and some towns in the state of Connecticut and New Jersey are included in the watch for the storm and is expected to affect most of the northeastern part of the country, from Pennsylvania to Maine, Rawlins said.

California already suffered one of its worst snowfalls

Television weather presenters, accustomed to announcing sunshine and mild temperatures on a daily basis, found themselves knee-deep in snow in some regions thanks to the intense storm, the worst in decades.

Due to ice and snow, authorities have closed some major arterial roads, including parts of the north-south Interstate 5 that connects Canada, the United States and Mexico. There is no estimated reopening date.

“There are dangerous and potentially fatal conditions due to snow on highways in mountains, deserts and foothills in Southern California,” the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

Snow and gusty winds knocked out power, leaving 100,000 customers in California without service, according to the portal. poweroutage.us.

Television channels sent their journalists to mountainous areas where some reported difficult traffic conditions, and others chatted with children happy to have a day off because of the snow.

Social networks were flooded with photos of snow on gardens and streets, thanks to the thousands of residents of the region marveling at the winter weather.

Even the Hollywood sign came into the picture. Jeff Zarrinnam, from the organization responsible for the famous sign, took a selfie with a snowball near his house, a few meters from the frame of the movie mecca.
