Trees and forests are a central issue for the government. The aim is to increase the proportion of forest areas in the country to 27%, explained the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, who is responsible for agriculture and rural development.
Zsolt Feldman emphasized that this will not only create a greener and more livable environment, but will also allow people to actively participate in the fight against climate change. During the tree planting campaign of the “Ózd should be Hungary’s lungs!” program, 120 trees were planted on Friday alone by volunteers such as: B. Planted by students from schools in the city. The number of trees planted as part of the reforestation program in Ózd since 2011 is 2,600.
Nationwide, the government has funded the planting of 46,000 trees since 2020. The cooperation between municipalities and civil society plays an extremely important role.
As a result of the peace dictate of Trianon, Hungary lost most of its forests. Since then, the proportion of local forest areas has doubled again in the last hundred years.
