The court will still consider Cydia’s lawsuit against Apple. The creator of the tweaks store accused the company of monopolizing iOS

In December 2020, Cydia creator Jay Freeman sued Apple for the monopoly of the App Store.

Apple tried to persuade Judge Yvonne Gonzalez-Rogers to dismiss the lawsuit, but failed. Gonzalez-Rogers ruled in favor of the plaintiff. The first version of the lawsuit was returned to the lawyers acting for SaurikIT LLC due to the statute of limitations, but they were allowed to file a new application.

The new document says that software updates released by Apple from 2018 to 2021 “clearly” hurt alternative iOS app distributors, including Cydia.

Jay Freeman is trying to punish Apple for banning the use of third-party app stores and payment systems, and also to oblige the Cupertinos to remove this restriction. [The Verge]
