The fight between Carmen Martínez-Bordiú and the Duke of Cádiz for custody after the tragic death of her eldest son

Carmen Martínez-Bordiú was labeled as selfish, a bad mother, immature, frivolous and capricious when she went to Paris to live with her partner Jean-Marie Rossi. Furthermore, after the tragic death of her son Francisco de ella, all of Carmen’s movements were looked at with a magnifying glass.

So much so that even the child’s behavior at the funeral raised suspicions. At first, Carmen stayed by her ex-husband, Alfonso de Borbón, and the magazines stated that, after 5 years without speaking, the tragedy brought them together again.

Everything went up in smoke when, while Alfonso remained in serious condition in the hospital, Carmen presented in the family court a document requesting the country and custody of Luis Alfonso, the ex-couple’s young son.

The media picked up other news that also questioned Carmen: two months later it was leaked that she had not paid the hospital bill that both parties had agreed to pay.

Custody was provisionally granted to the mother who, from that moment on, definitively became the villain of the story, a story in which the delicate situation that the Duke was experiencing is compared with the frivolous life that, supposedly, he continued to maintain. Franco’s granddaughter.

But the following decisions that Carmen made once again raised the fiercest criticism among the press and public opinion. The same year that their respective children died, the couple decided to say ‘I do’ and announce to the world that they were expecting a baby.

In February, two funerals were held for the anniversary of Fran’s death: one organized by the Franco family and another by the Duke of Cádiz, his mother and his son Luis Alfonso.

Carmen, 7 months pregnant, did not attend either.
