/MAPA/ The flu epidemic in Vysočina is escalating, especially in Žďársk, hygienists are reporting an alarming increase in the number of cases. According to hygienists, the numbers in the fourth week of the year rose by almost thirty percent in Vysočina. Influenza spreads most among children and young people.

Hygienists register in the fourth week of the year in Vysočina, there were 2,034 new current respiratory diseases per 100,000 inhabitants. “The current situation of the incidence of acute respiratory diseases in the region has worsened over the past week. The number of reported cases increased by twenty-eight percent compared to the previous week,” pointed out Hana Pavlasová, director of the anti-epidemic department Regional hygiene stations.

According to Pavlasová, respiratory diseases are most common among young children under the age of five, school children and young people under the age of twenty-four. “Among seniors over sixty-five, such a rapid increase in the number of patients has not yet occurred,” added Pavlasová, adding that patients usually have a mild course of the disease. “Influenza type A dominates among the causative agents of the disease,” added the director of the anti-epidemic department.

The numbers increased in the fourth week in Jihlavsk, Pelhřimovsk, Třebíčsk and Žďársk, which is the worst of the entire region. In the last-named district, the number increased by almost a thousand cases in a week. On the contrary, lower numbers than in previous weeks are reported by Havlíčkobrodsko, where the number of newly ill patients has decreased compared to the previous week.

“The most affected continues to be the Židár district, where 3,262 new patients have been reported. There are 1,917 new cases in the Jihlava district, 1,772 in Pelhřimovsk and 1,468 new cases in Havlíčkobrod. The Třebíč district is in a comparable situation with 1,451 cases per 100,000 inhabitants,” calculated regional hygiene spokeswoman Jana Böhmová.
