Trudeau had on the way to G7 summit made a stopover in South Korea in Hiroshima, Japan. High-ranking politicians from both nations wanted to toast to 60 years of diplomatic relations and try to save a battery deal worth billions. To mark the occasion, Trudeau was scheduled to address the South Korean National Assembly on Friday. Before this date, there was a hotly debated meeting in Canada with the head of parliament, Kim.
Because while Trudeau measures an impressive 1.88 meters, the South Korean is about 20 centimeters smaller. A circumstance that Kim, standing on tiptoe in front of the photographers, took as an opportunity for several jokes. As reported by the British “Guardian”, among others, the Canadian Prime Minister then leaned forward, which caused laughter on the part of the South Korean delegation. Then Trudeau did a half split to achieve a similar height level as Kim for the photos.
This gesture is known as “manner legs,” a sort of “manner stand,” and has a certain meaning tradition in South Korea, to compensate for significant differences in height. Therefore, it was unsurprisingly received mostly positively locally and Trudeau in South Korean media praised as “prudent”.

In the Canadian public, on the other hand, opinions differ on the gesture.
