The heat record was broken at midnight on April 1

At midnight in Daugavpils it was +18.3 degrees. The previous highest temperature recorded in Latvia’s second largest city on April 1 was +17.2 degrees in 1990.

The heat record on April 1 also improved in Aluksne, where it was +14.9 degrees in the middle of the night, as well as in Dagda, where the thermometer showed +17.6 degrees at midnight, and in Priekuli, where it was +16.3 degrees. The record was also broken in Rezekne, where at midnight it was +17 degrees.

At two o’clock in the morning the air temperature at observation stations ranged from +4.7 degrees on Kolka to +16.2 degrees in Daugavpils and Rezekne.

At the beginning of the night, thunder rumbled in places in the northeastern part of the country.

It has already been reported that on Sunday the highest air temperature in the country was +22.8 degrees in Zvejniekciem. This is a new national heat record for March 31 and for the entire month.

The record for maximum air temperature for March was broken at all observation stations except Kolka and Mersrags, where the southeast wind brought cold air from the Gulf of Riga.

The previous highest air temperature recorded in the country in the first month of spring was +20.8 degrees on March 30, 1968 in Mersrags.

At the same time, the national heat record for April was +27.9 degrees on April 24, 2000 in Riga.
