A 360 kilometers from the capital of Neuquén, a steep and narrow valley invites you to walk a path where waterfalls follow one another between ancient araucarias. you get to Caviahue along Provincial Route 26, all asphalt, between drawers and summer stalls. TO one kilometer from townbefore crossing the bridge over the Agrio river, there is the access to the waterfalls: 500 meters along a gravel path.

Today we propose you to visit the first four of the circuit known as the seven waterfalls: They are the most accessible and largest, although the path has 23 waterfalls until reaching the volcano.

You can go by car, by bike, or on foot. The slope is slight and in the parking lot you will find a sign with information about the circuit. We recommend you walk.

You have ahead of you a spectacular tour of about two hours if you do it calmly, with time to contemplate each one and take photos. Round trip: 3.5 km.

The first 60 tourist vehicles that enter Caviahue on Thursday 4/6 from 10 a.m. will receive an Easter egg

The first four (and wonderful) waterfalls

Basalt waterfall. It is the first on the trail and the last before the Agrio River flows into Lake Caviahue. If you look at it from above, you will notice how the water runs boxed in by the mountain at just over 1,600 meters above sea level, in this narrow and steep valley to the south of the Copahue volcano. And when you get closer, you will be surprised by the basalt outcrops left by the lava slag launched by successive eruptions.

Cabello de la Virgen Waterfall. The second stop on the ascent, which is still gently sloping. Here, the water falls close to the mountain. As throughout the tour, you hear the sound of the river, which becomes more powerful as you go along and warns you that you are getting closer.

Culebra waterfall. It is the third stop. Unlike the others, the water does not fall from the top but from the middle of the outcrop, while the araucarias (pehuenes) reign in the heights. Its famous seeds, the pine nuts, are rich in carbohydrates and are on the list of regional cooks.

Giant’s Waterfall. The biggest. From here, among the vegetation of the steppe, there is a good panoramic view of the Copahue volcano.

the mallin. Another beautiful view of the steppe. Here a sign warns about the need to preserve them: they are the basis of food for animal husbandry.
