The (marionette) strings come together in Wels

Around the festival center in the Minoriten, the entire old town becomes the backdrop for the 22 artists from seven nations from Thursday to the following Wednesday.

In addition, the other cultural sites such as the old slaughterhouse, the municipal theater and the arthouse cinema are also used.

Gerti Tröbinger’s team has again come up with numerous highlights – for example a “Picnic for Dolls” on Saturday on Minoritenplatz, at which several theater stations, some of which are interactive, invite you to “taste” the various projects from 3.30 to 6.30 p.m.

Classic and experimental

As usual, the program offers a mixture of classics such as fairy tale adaptations and modern, experimental theater productions, some of which are only aimed at adults – they all share the same high artistic standards.

There are also two permanent exhibitions in the foyer of the Minoriten, which can be seen throughout the festival: “I am Ilse, don’t forget me” is a project by students at Vocational School 1 in Wels and deals with people of the Jewish faith in Wels during National Socialism. The puppets from the production “Waidmannsheil oder Meuchelmord in Molln” by the Puppet Theater in Kirchdorf are also on display.

Also for the first time this year, the “Young Animation” festival will take place from June 22nd to 24th after the figure theater festival. There, puppeteers, filmmakers of the animation film genre and students of these arts will present their work. Works by young talents from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Estonia can be seen.
