“The minimum wage is not affected”

Back to the Ettlin motion, voted on this week in Bern. It devotes primacy to the Collective Labor Agreements (CCT). Priority is therefore given to them over the cantonal provisions of five cantons, including Geneva, which lay down minimum wages.

For Xavier Magnin, MP for the Centre, it is important to clarify the situation. He recalls that the minimum wage in Geneva will not be abolished any time soon since the motion tabled in Bern must now be the subject of a bill by the Federal Council. He comments: “The motion wanted to mark a sign for the social partnership, the CCTs. The dialogue between the professional unions of employers and those of employees”.

On a future risk of loss of earnings for modest incomes, the deputy candidate for the Council of State replies: “The minimum wage must be ensured” by specifying that wage dumping must be avoided.
