The media office of the Ministry of Public Health issued the following statement: “After the media circulated information on the number of cases infected with jaundice (hepatitis A), the Ministry of Public Health announces that the actual number of these infections recorded since the beginning of the spread of hepatitis until today is one hundred and seventy-four ( 174) cases, and the Ministry states that it has accompanied this issue since its appearance and announced it with absolute transparency, and it is still taking samples and conducting the necessary investigations to clarify the cause of the spread of the infection, which has not yet been finally resolved.

The Ministry of Public Health calls on all citizens and stakeholders to obtain information from it exclusively, and announces that it will issue a daily bulletin on the issue of jaundice, as is the case with the Corona epidemic, in order to benefit from the real data and numbers of the existing cases.

Earlier, the head of the Doctors Syndicate, Professor Youssef Bakhash, warned in a statement of “the rapid spread of Hepatite A, a highly contagious disease that leads, in exceptional cases, to a shortening of the liver’s work.”

He attributed the reasons for its rapid spread to “lack of potable water, poor sanitation and general hygiene. Worse, its incubation period extends from 15 to 50 days.”

Bakhash praised “the work of the Ministry of Health and its cooperation with the competent authorities, investigating the cause of pollution, and revealing that the water network is not polluted, according to the analyzes.”

He advised “the necessity of prevention and personal hygiene at home in terms of washing hands well after using the toilet and before preparing or eating food, and using reliable water for drinking and hygiene of vegetables and fruits. Work to provide the anti-vaccine, and then conduct a proactive vaccination campaign to prevent disease for vulnerable communities, provided that It begins with the elderly and those with health problems and chronic diseases.

He stressed that “the early detection of the disease is a priority, given that it leads to isolating the infected, limiting the spread of infection and eliminating the epidemic.”

What is jaundice?

Jaundice, or the so-called white yolk disease, is a disease caused by the formation of an excessive amount of a yellowish-colored pigment in the blood called bilirubin, which leads to its accumulation under the skin and in the eyes, resulting in yellowing of the skin and eyes, according to medical sites.
