The senator clarified when Ukraine could receive a new package of military assistance from the United States

“I hope that when he [закон] gets to the President on Tuesday or Wednesday, then these batches will literally be launched, along with these longer range missiles, ATACMS […] I hope that when the President signs […] these cargoes will be on their way by the end of the week,” Senator Warner said on the American television channel CBS.

The host asked the senator separately about long-range weapons, and Mark Warner confirmed: “On ATACMS – I believe the administration has been preparing for the last couple of months to prepare or transfer ATACMS. This is written into the law.”

As the American press reported last week, the Pentagon had prepared a large batch of military aid to Ukraine in advance, so after appropriations for it are approved, it will take less than a week to deliver weapons and ammunition to the Ukrainian army.

ATACMS is a tactical ballistic missile with a range of up to 300 km, which is launched from the HIMARS launcher. Last fall, the United States transferred to Ukraine a test batch of these missiles, an old modification, with a range of about 160 km. The press has repeatedly reported in recent months that the United States intends to include these missiles in the new package.

The House of Representatives voted on the Ukraine aid appropriations on April 20. On Tuesday, April 23, the Senate plans to begin voting on this law, after which President Biden must sign the document.
