Before this illness, which required the intervention in the corridors of Justitia by Red Cross rescuers, the 30-year-old explained that, according to her, the family of Smail Farisi knew, even before the arrest of the latter, that the accused had sublet his apartment to one of the suicide bombers. Ibrahim Farisi, on the other hand, was not aware of the identity of the tenant, according to the witness.

The woman had a relationship for about five months with Smail Farisi, until the time of his incarceration. It was the sister of the accused who informed her, at the end of April 2016, of his arrest on April 9. During this discussion, the sister told him that “the whole family” had been informed by Smail that the apartment had been sublet to Ibrahim El Bakraoui.

According to the witness, the accused made the connection on March 22, when the media shared photos of the terrorists. “His sister explained to me that the family was worried about Smail and his future, and they were all freaked out. They didn’t act like they should have,” she said. The family was obviously divided on what Smail should do: go or not go to the police.

For Smail’s ex-girlfriend, the family discussion did not, however, focus on moving and cleaning the apartment.

During her interrogations in 2018, the woman claimed that “the whole Farisi family” (“father, mother, sister, brother”) had discussed the matter. Asked by the first assessor, she replied that, according to her, Ibrahim was not aware of this discussion: “Smail called him to help him move, he knew nothing of the facts.”

However, the witness was unable to confirm or deny the presence of the younger brother during the family debate. “The sister spoke of ‘my brother’, but I didn’t know the names of his family members (there are three Farisi brothers, editor’s note).”

After the court asked many questions about it, the woman indicated that she believed that the conversation only took place after the apartment had been emptied (March 25, editor’s note). In doing so, she appeared to contradict earlier statements that showed the discussion had taken place earlier.
