After two years of virtuality, the massive Way of the Cross of the padre Ignacio Peries takes place in the Rucci neighborhood. It is the most important religious ceremony in the country that this year returned to the city with everything, after waiting for the faithful.
Thousands of people make a pilgrimage in the vicinity of the Nativity of the Lord parish listening to the words of the priest through loudspeakers and the radio and they hope that, at the end of the journey through the 14 stations of the Way of the Cross, the religious will address his final message in the stage in front of the people.
The concentration began early and, at 8:00 p.m., it started as announced, with great expectation on the part of the faithful who eagerly awaited the journey.
It was hard to put into words what was happening last night in the streets surrounding the temple. “Very exciting”; “a strong energy”; “a caress to the soul”. In this way, the attendees tried to explain what they experienced when going through the 14 stations of the Via Crucis.
Oscar Blázquez was one of the former Malvinas combatants who brought the Virgin of the Nativity of the Lord to the main stage. In a dialogue with La Capital, after leaving the figure, he said: “40 years after the war, we appreciate that the Father Ignatius invited us We come to thank, to ask for peace in the world and to remember our colleagues. Since they couldn’t come, we came to represent them.”
Although he stressed that they are present at each Via Crucis making mate cocido, it is the first time that they have “such a close involvement with the father.” “We are part of the town, we are one more. This time, for us, it was a prize and we felt very gratified. When we were in the war, we each wore a Rosary and prayed every day to save ourselves. Today, being here is priceless”, he concluded.
