Al-Marsad newspaper: The writer Turki Al-Hamad commented, through several tweets, on his official page on “Twitter” about the interest of some in opening the colonial file of the British Empire following the death of Queen Elizabeth II last Thursday.
Al-Hamad said, “With the death of Queen Elizabeth II, some began to open the colonial file of the British Empire, and the extent of its cruelty, bloodshed, violence, racism, exploitation of peoples and looting of their wealth.”
He continued: “All of this is true. But the embarrassing question is: Was this matter confined to Britain and its empire?”
He added, “There is no doubt that colonialism is abhorrent in all its forms, forms and practices, whoever practices it, and it is something that all the major empires of history practiced at the beginning of their emergence, rise and domination, as it was a way of life, either victorious or defeated.”
And he added, “Whether we are talking about France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal or the United States, and before that the Romans, Persians, Muslims and Ottomans, they were no less cruel and bloody than the British.”
He went on to say that opening the gates of history is opening windows to Hell, for a purpose other than the purpose of study and consideration.
He ended his speech by asking: Do we benefit from the experiences and tragedies of history, to build a better human future, or do we repeat the same disasters, and curse every nation that preceded it?! .
