After the rainfall recorded since Thursday afternoon in different parts of the province of Córdobathe Climate Risk Directorate warned that floods are expected in mountain rivers and asked for caution to those who are in areas close to basins and water courses.

Roberto Schreiner, director of Climate Risk, said that the increase in the flow of rivers and streams is expected this Friday, which is why he requested to keep a distance from the water channels to avoid inconveniences and risk situations in the event of possible floods.

Regarding the intensity of the rains recorded in the last few hours, Schreiner indicated that the outlook was variable.

In the Sierras Chicas area they recorded 42 millimeters; in Villa General Belgrano 60 millimeters; in Los Reartes 10 millimeters; in Villa de Totoral 140 millimeters; and in Capital 80 millimeters.

Recommendations to take into account

With some advance notice there are usually signs of a flood, due to the tone and color of the water. When it turns brown and brings foam, branches, leaves or debris, it means that the flood is arriving.

  • It is necessary to be aware of storm warnings and indications when the storm occurs.
  • Do not cross fords or bridges that are blocked by the flow of water.
  • Rescue operations are carried out by trained personnel. There is no need to take risks without knowledge or add problems to trained people.
  • The tent should not be set up near rivers or streams, or in low areas, since a sudden flood can surprise its occupants while they are sleeping.
  • The best way to know where to camp outside a campsite is to carefully observe the level of water growth, which leaves traces on trees, stones and fences.
