Therefore, the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (RTSD, CSDD) encourages motorcyclists to pay extra attention to safety. One of the reasons for the accidents is that large-scale construction work is underway in Riga, it is difficult to travel. Several incidents (falls) have occurred due to potholes in the roads.
The management emphasizes that such a tragic start to the season has not happened for a long time.
While most accidents are still being investigated, it is already possible to speak of errors both on the part of the drivers and on the part of the motorcyclists themselves.
According to CSDD representatives, repair work on the roads played a role – this year, many motorcyclists started the season before they ended. Several incidents (falls) have occurred due to potholes in the roads.
CSDD: what to consider before the start of the season
Representatives of CSDD note that the new motorcycle season will officially open only this weekend.
In order to avoid accidents, the directorate urges motorcyclists to pay attention to several important safety factors.
First, you should make sure that the motorcycle’s battery, and therefore the electronics, are in reasonably good condition. Also make sure your motorcycle tires are in good condition. In the spring, it is advisable to lubricate the motorcycle chain, as the oil layer dries up during the winter. You should also check the chain tension.
If the motorcycle has been stored in accordance with the specifications in the winter and has been filled with gas, you should not worry about the contents of the gas tank. If the tank was empty or almost empty, then you should make sure that there is no condensate and that the inside of the tank has not begun to rust.
Starting the season, you need to make sure the oil level in the engine and other units. If necessary, it is also necessary to change the oil and filters.
According to technical inspections, one of the most problematic things is the lighting and the correct adjustment of the headlights. Starting the season, you should check if all the lights are on and glowing correctly.
CSDD also emphasizes that at the beginning of the season, after several months of not riding a motorcycle, the skills must be restored. Therefore, it is advisable to attend a mastery recovery event or practice individually in some safe place.
In addition, CSDD notes that large-scale construction work is currently underway in Riga, traffic is limited and traffic jams occur in many places.
This is where the advantage of motorcycles will come to the fore to a large extent, but it must be taken into account that the roadways are narrow in the repair areas, the surface is often uneven, and the organization of traffic itself often changes, which may cause drivers of other vehicles to be more careless in relation to motorcycles passing through cork.
