And he added that Mercury’s orbit is internal to the Earth and close enough to the sun that it never gets far from it, as it is observed from our planet, on most nights.
Mercury rises or sets so close to the sun that it is impossible to see except for times near its maximum elongation, the angle between the planet and the sun in the sky.
He also pointed out that there are two types of eastern and western elongations, when Mercury is east of the sun, it is evening eastern elongation, and when it is on the western side of the sun, it is western morning elongation, explaining that the maximum elongation angle for Mercury ranges between 18 degrees and 28 degrees east or west of the sun, and is due The reason for this difference is because Mercury’s orbit around the Sun is not perfectly circular.
