Threats in the Prophet’s Blasphemy Controversy; Gun license issued to Nupur Sharma

New Delhi: Former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, who made anti-Prophet remarks, has been granted a gun license. The Delhi Police granted the gun license on the application filed by Nupur Sharma stating that there was a threat.

During a televised discussion held on 26 May 2022, Nupur Sharma made controversial remarks about the Prophet. There was a global protest against this. The Supreme Court had also pointed out that the reference to irresponsibility should be withdrawn. She filed a complaint stating that her life was threatened during the protests.

Nupur Sharma and those who supported the controversial statement were threatened with strangulation. They were given a gun license because of the threat. In the controversial reference, the Supreme Court had also directed to club the cases registered in different states together in case of threats. The court action was taken after Nupur Sharma pointed out that there was a threat to travel to different states in connection with the case.
