Tire Nichols Crime: Videos Document Police Brutality Against Black Youth

The authorities of Memphis (Tennessee, USA) published this Friday a series of videos showing the beating that several police officers gave the African-American Tyre Nichols (29 years), died earlier this month in a hospital after being beaten by officers.

The most graphic recording is the one captured by a surveillance camera on a light pole, where you can see from above how the officers kicked, some of them in the head, and hit Nichols with a knife.

Three other videos correspond to cameras that the agents carried attached to their bodies: in one of them it is seen how Nichols is taken out of his vehicle by some police officers who try to mobilize him on the ground until the man manages to get free and runs away.

At that moment, the police request reinforcements to search for the young African-American.

In another video Nichols appears when he is finally captured by the agents, who hit him several times with force, while the victim screams “mom, mom” y “give me a minute.”

In this recording you can hear how the troops insult the detainee while they try to mobilize it again.

Another of the recordings begins with somewhat confusing scenes in which there is a struggle. Immediately afterwards, Nichols leaves handcuffed on the ground next to a police car and the arrival of an ambulance can be seen.

The United States Attorney General, Merrick Garlandpromised this Friday that there will be an investigation into the death of Nichols at the hands of five police officers in Memphis (Tennessee) and asked that any protests that there may be about this event be peaceful.

Five former agents are in custody and face various criminal charges for beating Nichols to death, who was arrested on January 7 for a suspected traffic violation.
