Top Chef Semi-Final: Danny, Mathieu, and Hugo Battle for Victory with Molecular Cuisine, Pheasant Pie, and Endive Dish

This Monday evening was the semi-final of Top Chef, which opposed Danny, Mathieu and Hugo. They all three challenged each other on their favorite theme. Everyone was able to imagine a test for their competitors. The difficulty is to find a dish that is complicated enough to challenge the other two, while mastering its subject to win the challenge.

Danny asks his companions to revisit classics in molecular cuisine, Mathieu challenges them to a pheasant pie while Hugo asks them to cook endive, from root to chicory. By winning his own event, a candidate does not score points, but prevents the other two from scoring points.

Danny manages to destabilize his two companions, who fail to beat him on his test. With his pheasant to be plucked and gutted before cooking, Mathieu does not really disturb Hugo while Danny, Hélène Darroze’s foal, is put in difficulty. “I live it as one of the hardest tests of Top Chef”, he confided. But he managed to regain the upper hand and both Hugo and him scored a point.

Finally, Hugo’s chicory to cook in 55 minutes is a success for Mathieu, who scores a point. Each candidate then has a point, but as Danny obtains a second on this third test, he qualifies directly for the final.

“Come on, it’s going to be fine”

When discovering the results, raising a bell, Hugo, the candidate of Philippe Etchebest, laughs nervously. “I’m shaking like a leaf”, confesses Danny to Hélène Darroze. A stress of very short duration since discovering the green circle symbol of his qualification, Danny, exults and falls into the arms of his boss. “Bravo, champion, Danny the legend”she says to the candidate who fought to regain his place after being eliminated.

For the other two, on the other hand, the circle is orange, symbol of equality. Mathieu hugs his brother (the show’s candidate eliminated earlier) and Glenn Viel, seeing it as a sign that nothing is lost yet. Hugo and his boss are disappointed, but remain hopeful. “Hey shit!”first launches Philippe Etchebest, before reassuring his candidate: “Come on, it’s going to be fine, Hugo, we believe in it”.

“I lost, but I won”

It is the chefs François-Régis Gaudry and Paul Pairet who must then decide between the two candidates, on their three plates. And it’s Hugo who qualifies and who will face Dany in the final next week.

This means that Mathieu fails at the gates of victory, but he is very fair play: “Finally, it does not surprise me that it is these two candidates in the final”he concludes, proud of his career. “I lost, but I won everything”he finally said.
