Users of the E40 motorway could only see it: since Wednesday, huge traffic jams have formed at the height of the Herstal viaduct. In question, a defective expansion joint.
Since Wednesday, repairs have been carried out urgently. Until Thursday 9 p.m., two traffic lanes out of three are maintained at the height of the viaduct in the direction of Brussels. The maximum speed is limited to 50 km/h for safety reasons. During the night of this Thursday to Friday (around 6am), temporary repairs will be carried out pending receipt of the new expansion joint. Users will travel on a lane at the height of the work area.
The work will then be spread over a week. From Friday 5 May until Friday 12 May, these will consist of permanently replacing the expansion joint of the Herstal viaduct supporting the E40/A3 in the direction of Brussels. The work will be carried out at night. During this period, during the day, traffic will be maintained on three lanes with a maximum speed limited to 50 km/h. At night (from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.), users will travel on one lane. The speed will always be limited to 50 km/h.
A LIDAR will be present to encourage users to respect the maximum speed imposed at 50 km/h for safety reasons.
