The U.S. health portal ‘Thehealthy’ recently reported that doctors at the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) under the National Institutes of Health (NIH) said that exercising consistently, even for a short period of time, can help you earn more money. It was introduced that the research results that confirmed the existence of this were made public.

The researchers analyzed the ‘U.S. Elderly Panel Data (HRS)’, which can identify changes according to the age of Americans over 50 years old, to determine the impact of mobility on income, changes in mobility and income level over time, and the relationship between exercise and aging. The relationship between changes in mobility was identified.

Mobility refers to the ability to move the body, and HRS boasts the largest volume of data in the United States that tracks various aspects of an individual’s life, including work, social and economic status, health, psychology, and family issues, according to age.

To understand the relationship between current mobility and income level, we examined related data from more than 19,000 people and checked how well they could perform simple activities such as climbing several flights of stairs and moving around a room. As a result of dividing the score into 5 points for full mobility and 0 points for major difficulties, we found that for each point lowered in score, there was an average annual decrease in income of $3,000 (approximately 4.07 million won). In addition, it was confirmed that active people had a higher employment rate even as they got older compared to inactive people, and that if they exercised consistently every day, they could maintain good mobility and work longer than those who were not active.

It is best to exercise every day, but experts advise that even if you exercise consistently just one day a week, your mobility can be significantly improved, so you need to make an effort to move and train your body at least a little.

Of course, this study alone cannot say that exercise and the active lifestyle pattern maintained through it necessarily guarantee high income. However, it is evaluated that it has been confirmed that if you maintain a body that can move well through regular exercise and live an active life, you can see more effects than simply reducing the probability of developing the disease and maintaining health.

“We have long known that high mobility in daily life is an important part of health,” said NIH Director Lindsey Criswell. “Through this study, we confirmed that better mobility can lead to greater economic rewards, which is a benefit of consistent exercise.” “This is proof that it exceeds expectations,” he emphasized.

The study was published in the renowned international journal “Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research (CORR).”
