On April 23, 2021 around 4:40 p.m., the lifeless body of Vinciane Mathues, 43, was found at her home on rue du Château de Micheroux in Soumagne. This teacher at the High School of the Province of Liège, much appreciated, left behind two young children.
If, at first, the ex-husband of the victim who received several stab wounds had been questioned by the police, he was then released for lack of evidence against him.
The man had been deprived of his liberty the day after the discovery of Vinciane’s lifeless body. The Liège justice explained that the man had to be heard with regard to the disagreement he had with his ex-wife. However, he presented an alibi and categorically denied the facts. “After verification, it turns out that his statements correspond to what happened. The investigating judge therefore considered that there was no evidence to suspect the man of having committed the facts”, we were then told at the Liège prosecutor’s office.
Two individuals wanted
Since then, the mystery hovers. As was already the case a few days after the events, the police published a new call for witnesses on Tuesday. Investigators are still looking to identify two individuals who were strolling around the neighborhood on the day of the incident between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Around 9:20 a.m., they were seen again in the neighborhood with a different outfit.
The 1st individual is of slim build. He was dressed in a light jacket, blue pants with a white line on the sides and burgundy sneakers with white edges and red soles. He was in possession of a gray backpack.
The 2nd individual is of athletic build and is taller than the 1st. He was dressed in a two-tone jacket – navy blue and turquoise, black pants and brown shoes. He was in possession of a black backpack.
