Valve Enabled Ray Tracing on First Steam Deck Game

American company Valve added ray tracing (RTX) feature on the first game for the portable Steam Deck console – it was Doom Eternal. The opportunity appeared with the release of update 3.4.6 for the Steam Deck OS operating system.

Ray tracing in Steam Deck currently works through the Vulkan graphics API, but in the future, the developers promise to add a more demanding DirectX implementation to the hardware. In Doom Eternal, when RTX is enabled, performance is stable at 35 fps. The Steam Deck update also fixed some graphical issues in the recently released Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Previously, the Steam Deck portable console became compatible with more than 8 thousand games, and among the latest optimized games for the console are the Russian shooter Atomic Heart and Cyberpunk 2077. Also Valve reportedthat in February 2023, the number of Steam users using Windows 11 exceeded 30% for the first time. Windows 10 is still the most popular operating system with 62.3% of Steam users.
