The calendar of events in Waldkirchen an der Thaya (district of Waidhofen an der Thaya, Lower Austria) is empty apart from the annual floor cleaning in spring and the Advent market in December. Otherwise, there is more peace and tranquility in the 494-inhabitant community on the Czech border. Except when the local rural youth calls for a masked ball, then there is a party atmosphere in the otherwise rather underutilized community center. But this year the hangover after the festival was a bit more severe, which is probably due to the choice of costumes by some guests with a clearly racist connotation. The motto of the evening: “Off into the wilderness – Waldkirchen goes on safari”.
