Germany has officially registered almost 123,000 refugees from Ukraine. In addition, 2,500 people are to be admitted from the Republic of Moldova. The integration commissioner Alabali-Radovan praised the solidarity of the population.
The Federal Government Commissioner for Integration, Reem Alabali-Radovan (SPD), has promised that refugees from Ukraine will continue to be admitted. “Germany will offer protection to all people who flee to us from Ukraine,” she told the newspapers of the Funke media group.
According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, 122,837 people have come to Germany from Ukraine since the Russian attack began on February 24. A spokesman said these were figures from the federal police, which are currently checking more intensively. However, since there are no fixed border controls at the internal borders, the number of war refugees entering Germany could actually be significantly higher.
“It is overwhelmingly women, children and old people who have experienced horrific things,” said Interior Minister Nancy Faeser in Berlin. The federal government supports the states and municipalities in the care, accommodation and distribution of people. Nationwide, more than 2,300 members of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) are currently deployed. Her focus is currently on the construction of emergency shelters and relief goods logistics. THW volunteers are also on the road in Poland, Romania and Moldova to coordinate aid.
Special trains from Poland
Special trains will be deployed in Poland this weekend to bring refugees from Ukraine to Germany. Polish Deputy Interior Minister Pawel Szefernaker said there will be nine special trains to Germany on each of the two days of the weekend, in addition to the eight regular trains that run daily between Poland and Germany.

This is a kind of “pilot test” of how the offer is used by those Ukrainians who want to travel to Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands or other western countries. “There is currently a train with more than 600 people on the way to Munich,” he said.
2500 Ukrainian refugees from Moldova
Minister Faeser and Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock had previously promised to bring 2,500 refugees from Moldova to Germany at short notice and to grant them protection. This should be implemented quickly and unbureaucratically.
Such a possibility is “absolutely sensible” in order to relieve the country and to distribute the arrivals to other countries, said Baerbock. Very many people are currently seeking refuge in the small neighboring country.
