The Egyptian Medicines Authority has warned of fraudulent and counterfeit packages of 4 medicines since the beginning of this August, calling for the control and custody of what may be directed in government and public pharmacies.
And in Circular No. 13 of 2023, which Masrawy obtained, the Medicines Authority decided to withdraw a full batch of the “Viovac 108 mg” drug, with the number B02321P; Because the product does not meet the specifications.
The medicine is used under medical supervision in cases of severe breathing difficulty in children, which may be caused by a condition called respiratory distress syndrome.
In its circular No. 14 of 2023, the Egyptian Medicines Authority called for the withdrawal of counterfeit packages of the drug “Ciprobay tablets”, which is used under medical supervision as an antibiotic in the treatment of urinary tract infections and lower respiratory tract infections.
She clarified that the counterfeit packages of the drug contain a concentration of 500 mg for batch No. 471, and a concentration of 750 mg for batch No. 280.
The authority pointed out the apparent differences between the original and counterfeit packages, which is the paper material for the outer carton of the counterfeit packages, a concentration of 500 mg, which is not good and not shiny, and the inner disc is thicker than the original.
Ciprobay is used to treat urinary tract infections, cystitis, chronic bacterial prostatitis, lower respiratory tract infections, acute sinusitis, bronchitis, and skin infections.
And in its Circular No. 15 of 2023, the authority directed the authority to seize batch No. 216402 of the “Hibiotic N 600mg/5ml Suspension” product, manufactured by Amoun Pharmaceutical Company, and all other batches that conform to the specifications mentioned in the counterfeit package.
The drug is used in the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections, otitis media, sinusitis, and skin infections.
The authority indicated that it is possible to distinguish outwardly between the original and adulterated packages, in terms of the outer carton, the side face of the package, and the inner leaflet.
In its circular No. 16 of 2023, the authority warned of counterfeit packages of Zilon Forte, which is used to treat endocrine disorders and rheumatoid arthritis.
The authority clarified that the counterfeit packages of Zylon Forte have lot numbers 4521001 and 351017, pointing to the apparent differences between the counterfeit and the original, represented in the tendency of the color of the outer package to yellow in the counterfeit packages.
