watched| The moment of the explosion of a red giant star

A number of astronomers have monitored the explosion of a super red star and collected important new information about these dramatic events.

Lead author Wayne Jacobson Gallan (UC Berkeley) said: “This is a breakthrough in our understanding of what massive stars do moments before they die, direct detection of pre-supernova activity in a red giant star that has not previously been observed in an ordinary type supernova. 2. For the first time, we watched a red giant star explode.”
