“We could go on orange alert tomorrow, damage cannot be ruled out!”

The day after the passage of storm Eunice, the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) issued a new wind warning on Saturday. This has been in effect since 5 p.m. (until midnight) for the Coast, the provinces of West and East Flanders and the province of Antwerp. After a lull, Belgium will once again be on yellow alert from Sunday 1:00 p.m. to Monday 9:00 p.m. This second warning will be in effect nationwide.

Precisely, this Sunday afternoon, the gusts will increase again to reach 80 to 90 km / h, warns the IRM. Sunday evening, and during the night from Sunday to Monday, an active cold front will cross Belgium from the coast with the possibility of strong gales reaching 90 to 120 km/h.

If this situation is confirmed, the MRI could temporarily go into code orange. A possibility confirmed by David Dehenauw this Saturday evening. “Tomorrow we are expecting strong gusts of wind again, which could strengthen with showers later in the evening. In some places this Sunday, wind gusts of 100 km/h or more could be observed. This would be a reason to go to orange alert, but we will assess the situation. In any case, the weather will be stormy and damage cannot be ruled out, ”explained the meteorologist on VTM Nieuws.

On Monday, the atmosphere will remain very agitated with gusts of 80 to 100 km / h, or even slightly higher.
