[Weather Center] High Temperature and Dryness Spark Wildfire Emergency Until Tomorrow… Possibility of Rain Forecasted for the Following Day

Today, over 30 forest fires broke out with a dry warning issued for most areas of the country. The high temperature and dry weather are expected to continue tomorrow, increasing the risk of forest fires. However, rain is forecasted the day after tomorrow which may slow down the spread of wildfires for a while. Gyeonggi Goyang reached 27℃, Gyeonggi Dongducheon 26.2℃, and Seoul 25.2℃, displaying early summer weather in the first week of April. Most of the forest fires today were concentrated in the metropolitan and Chungcheong areas due to the high pressure in the northern part of the East Sea. The Korea Meteorological Administration predicts heavy rain approaching from the West Sea, starting with Jeju Island in late afternoon the day after tomorrow. The rain is expected to have a significant impact on forest fire prevention for 2 to 3 days. Although the wildfires may slow down temporarily, we need to be careful as dry and strong winds tend to blow in April, posing a high risk of large-scale wildfires.

Today, more than 30 forest fires broke out one after another while a dry warning was issued in most areas of the country.

As the high temperature and dry weather continues tomorrow, the possibility of forest fires is high.

Fortunately, there is a forecast for rain the day after tomorrow, so it seems that forest fires will slow down for a while.

This is a report by Kim Min-gyeong, a weather and disaster reporter.

Red flames rise with thick smoke.

Forest fire extinguishing helicopters spray water continuously, but it is not enough to extinguish the strong flames.

Today, Gyeonggi Cat rose to 27 degrees, Gyeonggi Dongducheon 26.2 degrees, and Seoul to 25.2 degrees, showing early summer weather even though it was the first week of April.

More than 30 wildfires broke out across the country today alone,

In particular, unlike many forest fires in the east coast area in spring, most of them were concentrated in the metropolitan area and Chungcheong area today.

This is because the high pressure in the northern part of the East Sea blew easterly winds, and on the contrary, the western area became hot and dry.

Tomorrow, while the country is mostly sunny, the highest daytime temperature in Seoul rises to 27 degrees, and hot and dry weather is expected to continue, so special attention is needed to prevent forest fires.

However, due to the influence of low pressure approaching from the West Sea the day after tomorrow, it is expected that it will rain in the central region and the Jeolla region, starting with Jeju Island from late afternoon the day after tomorrow.

Although there is great variability in the path of low pressure, the Korea Meteorological Administration predicted that this rain would rain a lot compared to spring.

With the rain the day after tomorrow, the wildfires that raged yesterday and today are expected to slow down for a while, but in April, dry and strong winds often blow, so special attention is needed as the risk of large-scale wildfires is high.
