At least 64 people were injured by a collapsing attic at a wedding celebration in the central Italian town of Pistoia on Saturday evening. According to the authorities, at least five guests had to be taken to hospitals with serious injuries.
According to initial information, part of the ceiling in the restaurant of the former Giaccherino monastery came down around 8:30 p.m. while the party was dancing. The cause was initially unclear.
Several children were also injured
The President of the Tuscany region, Eugenio Giani, spoke in the evening of more than 30 injured people who had now received medical care. According to the authorities, there are also several children among them.
The former monastery is often used for weddings and other events. There is now a huge hole in the ceiling. The floor of the ballroom was covered in rubble.
