On April 5, the headquarters of the Superior Court of Lima Y the National Election Jury, located on Nicolás de Piérola avenue, as well as the Public Ministry, on Abancay Avenuesuffered acts of vandalism after the protest carried out in full curfew, decreed by President Pedro Castillo.
In that sense, the Special Services Unit of the National Police (USE) managed to identify the 12 people who were detained during the attack. Of the total, 10 are adults and two are 16-year-olds. The detainees took advantage the demonstration against the government of Castillo Terrones to destroy the facilities of these institutions.

According to police sources, those intervened were found with parts of the computer equipment and other implements that they stole from the Superior Court of Justice of Lima, whose doors and windows were broken with stones and other elements.
Some of those arrested by USE agents appear in videos and photographs captured by the media and by the chambers of the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima.

The detainees were held in the Cotabambas, Monserrat and Alfonso Ugarte police stations; then, by order of the prosecutor on duty, they were sent to the Social Affairs Division of the State Security Directorate for the corresponding investigations in order to find out if there is any relationship between them or if they belong to any political organization, or other reasons.

“This prosecutor’s office is investigating the 12 people who were detained in flagrante delicto and who would be linked to the damage caused to these entities and other premises near the protest zone.”pointed out the Public ministry. Likewise, “these people are charged with the alleged commission of the crimes of aggravated damage and disturbances, as well as aggravated robbery,” the institution added.
For their part, after reviewing videos and photographs, police officers do not rule out that the attacks were premeditated. This is because there was some level of coordination between the vandals. If such a fact is proven, the police investigation could lead to a case of organized crime.

Meanwhile, the Citizen Security Management of the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima It has already received the request from the Prosecutor’s Office to share the videos that recorded the violent acts during April 5.
Sources commented to La República if they were considering the attack on the premises of the National Elections Jury, the Superior Court of Lima and the Public Ministryfor political reasons, which was not ruled out.
“We work with different hypotheses, for example, financing, because among the detainees there are people who live in remote places. Someone must have given them money for their tickets and food. We have seen other mobilizations of a political nature in which the organizers distributed money for people to come to the Center of Lima. We have a history.” they indicated.
