GreenTeam Uni Stuttgart driver achieves the best start ever for an electric car

The students of the Green Team Uni de Stuttgart can be proud of them. They succeeded in developing an electric car capable of setting the world record for the fastest start in history. Indeed, to reach the speed of 100 km/h, the pilot took only 1.461 seconds.

As much to tell you that it was not necessary to blink to appreciate this moment! This electric car, built by twenty students, has an acceleration “roughly equivalent to the force experienced by astronauts when a rocket enters the Earth’s atmosphere. according to the GreenTeam website.

An exceptional record

It’s not not the first time the GreenTeam breaks this record. In 2012, already, a hot start propelled the car to 100 km/h in just 2.681 seconds. Subsequently, a better time had been achieved at the Netherlands and then Switzerland, until the German team obtained it in 2015 (1.779 seconds). A Swiss team then broke this record in 2016 (1.513 seconds) and it has been in force since. It was the second record attempt by the GreenTeam this year after nearly a year of preparation. The team had to cancel its first try, scheduled for early September, due to technical issues. The car crashed into the barriers and suffered serious damage.

The Free Guinness World stated that the record has been verified on a test track in Renningen, Germany, on September 23.

To get an idea of the speed reached by the vehicle, it travels the length in half the time a falling body would need … It’s a real success for a student team.

Supported by various associations and HWA, former partner of Mercedes in Formula E, the twenty students developed a state-of-the-art single-seater. For a year, they built the vehicle from scratch within a specially dedicated campusin Stuttgart.

The carbon car weighs only 145 kg and has a power of 180 kW. It includes two motors with traction on all four wheels, which is not commonplace for a single-seater. Considering its weight, it reaches accelerations of 2,5 g for 1750 horsepower per ton.
