Reminiscing on 2018 and the City Girls Rise

The song features a melancholic beat alongside emotional background vocals from Tiffany Evans, who repeatedly harmonizes the line, “Ooh, I’m missin’ you.” Throughout the track, Miami plays back memories through the years alongside JT, ranging from getting into fights to shopping in Barcelona. “Reminiscing in my feelings bout 2018, it was a scene,” she raps.

Miami and JT formed City Girls in 2017, though they had been friends long before. Their trajectory shifted in late 2017 when their song “Fu*k Dat Ni**a” gained sudden traction. The following year marked their official breakout after they signed a record deal with Quality Control and released both a debut mixtape and a debut album. Their visibility soared further when Yung Miami made a cameo appearance in Drake’s “In My Feelings” music video.

Tensions and Solo Ambitions Lead to Duo Split

Following their early viral success, the duo maintained a steady release schedule. They ultimately delivered three studio albums and earned multiple awards and nominations along the way. However, underlying tensions eventually surfaced following the release of their 2023 album, RAW.

Disagreements involving apparent lyric-based jabs and differing solo career ambitions boiled over into a public back-and-forth argument on social media in early 2024. The duo split later that year and has remained estranged ever since.

Waiting for the Phone Call

During an interview with HOT 97 that dropped alongside the album’s release, Miami discussed her thought process behind the song. She shared that she cried while creating it and simply wanted to address what was on her heart. Miami noted that she did not show JT the track prior to its release and that JT has not yet responded. Even so, she told the outlet, “If the phone call happens, I’ma answer it, and we’ll go from there.”
