For a still unknown reason, a truck left its path and overturned several people who were gathered at a block party in Nieuw-Beijerland, near Rotterdam, in the Netherlands.
According to initial information from the police, several people were hit by the vehicle and lost their lives. In addition to the dead, several injured were taken to hospital.
The police have not yet been able to specify the number of victims.
Several ambulances and helicopters equipped with trauma equipment were deployed to the scene of the accident, which happened on the Zuidzijdsedijk. Police said they were “working with numerous rescue workers on the incident”.
The circumstances of the accident are not yet known but the tire tracks of the truck in the embankment suggest that it was an accident. The driver is in shock and will be questioned shortly.
