If the last four weeks have taught us anything, it’s that triple-A games are no longer the only or the best source of creativity in the industry, and the most recent example of this is Kingmakerswhose first trailer debuted today and has everyone who sees it perplexed.

Developed by the little one estudio Redemption Road Gamesover the last five years, Kingmakers Take advantage of a premise that many of us have played with in our imagination: What would happen if you could travel to the past, with modern-day weapons?

“Please add our new KingMakers to your wishlist on Steam. We’ve been working really hard on this for 5 years and we can finally present it to the public today. I hope you like it.”

It sounds clever, but inconsequential until you see the first trailer that makes you think you’re looking at a clone of Chivalry and, after the 20-second mark, things get out of hand.

Not satisfied with a crazy argument, Kingmakers It seems to have a technical standard worthy of a game of the current erabeing a hybrid between shooter third person and isometric RTS, both (apparently) very well produced with hundreds of units on screen with no compromise to performance. Needless to say, the reactions have been one of astonishment among the community.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had as much whiplash as watching what this trailer turns into at 0:23. What game is this?”

Kingmakers is scheduled to debut this year on Steam, although without a precise release date, and will support cooperative play. Something tells us that will be the sensation, at least for a while.
