Apple Watch: what is the difference between AssistiveTouch, Quick Actions and Double Tap?

In watchOS 8, Apple launched another accessibility feature for watchOS users. Apple Watch. This is the AssistiveTouch, which allows you to use various watch functions without having to touch the screen. In addition, there was the inclusion of Quick Actions (Quick Actions)which allow you to perform actions such as closing your fist twice to answer a call.

At the launch of the Apple Watches Series 9 and Ultra 2, this feature was once again remembered by users, mainly due to the fact that Apple developed an exclusive feature very similar to AssistiveTouch for this new generation, called Double Tap (Double Tap).

Despite following the same idea (controlling Apple Watch functions without using your hands), these functions differ from each other. Check out the differences between AssistiveTouch, Quick Actions and Double Tap! ⌚️

AssistiveTouch

AssistiveTouch’s main objective is to allow the user to control all watchOS features without using the other hand — such as in cases where there is a disability in the limb or even its total absence.

Using a series of gestures such as squeezing, squeezing twice, pinching two fingers together and pinching two fingers together twice, you can open applications, make payments via Apple Pay, among other things.

AssistiveTouch can be used on Apple Watches SE (both generations), Series 6 and later, and Apple Watch Ultra (all models).

Quick Actions

Quick Actions allow you to react when you receive an alert using gestures. In addition to closing your fist twice to answer a call, you can also use two taps (between your thumb and index finger) to postpone an alarm or stop an ongoing timer, for example.

Double Tap

Double Tap (Double Tap) allows you to control the main button of the application in use using two taps between your thumb and index finger, as well as the Quick Actions button. Additionally, you can scroll through widgets added to the Smart Set (Smart Stack) without using your hands.

Despite being very similar to AssistiveTouch, Apple claims that Double Tap is only possible thanks to the S9 processor. Therefore, it is restricted to Apple Watches Series 9 e Ultra 2 running watchOS 10.1 or later.

As the gesture is very similar to Quick Actions, this feature has been completely removed from these newer models.
