A violent assault on a Brinks-brand securities truck at the Florida Center Mall left a guard dead and two injured after a shootout when they were withdrawing money from the Jumbo supermarket.
According to the information provided by the Chief General of the Police Metropolitan Zone, John Camusindicated that five subjects dressed in overalls of different colors intimidated the workers with a high-caliber long weapon and another two with short weapons to later use them against them.
“In response, the security personnel use their firearms and repel the attack; as a result, the three guards who were on the floor are injured,” added Camus.
Additionally, Carabineros reported that the corresponding procedures are being carried out to find the whereabouts of the criminals, achieving the identification of two vehicles that were used and later abandoned in the Yungay population, in the commune of La Granja.
Complaint by Brinks
Through a statement, the company announced this afternoon a lawsuit against those responsible for the assault that occurred in Florida. In addition, they lamented the death of the collaborator and the delicate state of health of the other two people who are in different healthcare facilities in the Metropolitan region.
“We have activated the due accompaniment and support for their families. Likewise, we have activated different containment actions for both the wounded guards and the rest of their colleagues who require it,” they maintained.
They also added that “at the time of the incident, our guards had all their security equipment in accordance with the established protocol, as well as the necessary training and the proper courses in accordance with current regulations to carry out said work.”
“As Brink’s we categorically reject this violent act, which is why we will file a lawsuit against all those who are responsible. Likewise, we are in contact with the authorities to collaborate in the investigation of this unfortunate assault that mourns us as a company,” the document ends.
Response from the Guild
The representatives of the Association of Private Security and Securities Transport Companies (Aseva) also repudiated the fact and hope that “those responsible receive the maximum sanctions established by law.”
The President of Aseva, Patrick Undurragacommented to Emol that “we will be attentive to the evolution of the health status of the victims, we hope for their speedy recovery and we send our support to the families of the three vigilantes”.
“We are available to the authorities to develop collaborative work between public and private actors, to have effective public policies to prevent and deal with this type of situation,” he concluded.
