It was on January 21 that the octogenarian went to the KBC bank around 3:30 p.m. to withdraw money. CCTV footage shows that as she puts her card in the machine, a stranger walks into the bank. He first stood in front of the second machine, then stood on his tiptoes to look over the elderly lady’s shoulder.
In order to distract his victim, the man spoke to her in French. Once the bank card came out of the machine, he slipped into the cabin occupied by the lady to steal her card without being noticed. The elderly lady did not understand why her bank card did not come out of the machine and the thief told her that she had been swallowed, indicate our colleagues from Nieuwsblad. And while the victim was trying to understand what had just happened to him, the thief withdrew 1,000 euros from the lady’s account, via the second machine. He then left the bank with the card. A few minutes later, the 84-year-old lady returned home.
The next day, the thief once more had fun on his victim’s account, going to withdraw 1,000 euros in Veurne. On January 23, once more, he withdraws 500 euros in Mouscron. In total, the victim was robbed of 5,000 euros.
