The scourge of excessive speeding does not seem to dampen the ardor of the most daring in the Outaouais. Despite several operations by police forces, heavy-footed drivers clearly do not understand the message.

A motorist was caught at more than twice the permitted limit early Wednesday morning in the Aylmer sector. A citizen contacted 311 on Wednesday to report a vehicle that was traveling at high speed on Baillie Road.

The police went to the scene and, thanks to a detailed description, they managed to catch the offending driver in the act.

He was caught at 144 km/h in a 70 zone. The offender had his vehicle towed, not to mention his $1,400 fine, his 14 demerit points and his license suspended for seven days.

The Gatineau Police Department encourages citizens to contact 311 regarding recurring speeding situations.

“When we talk about a situation like that which is recurring, and we are able to have descriptions, precise times, 311 is really the best vehicle for this information,” explains Andrée East, spokesperson. of the City of Gatineau Police Department.

“So, when we talk about a speed problem that is widespread, well at that point, yes, it’s 311.”
