Inflation is accelerating again in Belgium and climbs to 9.65% for the month of June. With certain products becoming up to 20% more expensive in one year and energy prices continuing to rise, we are facing the highest inflation in 40 years.
Some cheaper products
However, some products are now cheaper. These include television equipment (-13%), software (-10%) and clothing (-4 to -5%).
“These are completely different markets that are affected in different ways,” says Tom Si monts, economist at KBC, in the Nieuwsblad. “There is a constant demand for supermarkets, so it is easier to raise prices there, especially if there is less supply. This is now the case because of the war and in addition, the costs are also higher”.
According to the economist, there is “a good chance” that clothing stores will offer more attractive discounts during the sales: “We always spend less money because we work more from home and spend our money differently. So it wouldn’t surprise me if customers were to get some good deals during the sales.”
