On TV, his unique longevity (35 years!) commands respect. Its natural too. So we say to ourselves that Sophie Davant, an accomplished 60-year-old woman, has a few little secrets for “aging well” to share with us. This is what she does in a book where she does not shy away from any subject, from sexuality to botox to the anticipation of retirement. And she tells us much more here, talking about her future in the media and her “painful” decision to have stopped the presentation of “Concluded Deal”.

Sophie, one of the goals of your latest book, “What a joy to grow old!” » is, among other things, to help make visible women who, like you, are 60 years old, and quite simply to embrace their age…

The point was above all to say that, after a certain age, we are not out of date. We still have the whole future ahead of us and what I deplore is that too often either there are injunctions from society, or women themselves almost punish themselves by saying “that’s it, we is no longer attractive, we are no longer active and we endure our situation.” I wanted to say that we can approach this new period of life by saying “to all of us! “. Seduction is ours, we are not out of date provided we know how to maintain ourselves, stay in shape and present ourselves in a better light. For us love stories, we can still fall in love and have fulfilled sexuality. And then, professionally, it’s the same: you can have offers at that age. The proof is that I have just tried a new adventure on Europe1. And if we are in a period of retirement, we can not endure retirement and tell ourselves that we will remain in contact with others, active.

Have you heard this word “outdated” about yourself?

No, and fortunately, because it’s violent! On the other hand, I have heard some not very pleasant things concerning, for example, equal pay. I was told one day, when I was married to the father of my children (journalist Pierre Sled, Editor’s note) and we worked on the same channel, when I went to ask the boss for a raise – which is not so common because generally women don’t really like to ask, we prefer to be offered it to us but we can wait a long time! (smile) – that my husband was paid well enough! I loved this answer… So, I wasn’t told that I was out of date but it happened to me that my show was stopped to renew the genre because fresher hosts were needed. And these new programs didn’t last long! Moreover, at the time, the program director who stopped “Tout une histoire” to change everything in the afternoons on France2, after six months, he was no longer there! And I’m still here…

Have you asked for a raise again since then?

No. It disgusted me a little. And I always have a lot of trouble doing it myself so, since then, I have hired a lawyer who does it very well! (laughs) It costs me dearly but he’s the one who negotiates. I found my peace of mind because I believe that someone else speaks better of you than you do yourself. In any case, I know how to do lots of things but I’m not in the best position to sell myself! On the other hand, having bosses, as was the case for Europe 1, who come to find you and tell you what qualities appealed to them, is very pleasant.
