At the head of the French Association of Film Producers (AFPF), a professional union, since December 2022, Martinican Régine Larcher has worked to promote and support independent producers in the pursuit of their projects, particularly those from overseas. sea.
I worked for the production company Eloa Prod (Murders in Guadeloupe…), as production manager for France Zobda for around ten years. At the same time, I became an executive producer and set up a consulting module for independent producers who are starting out. The appointment at the head of the union took place in December 2022 following a decision by the former president who had a 360° vision. He made me understand that overseas territories needed to be more represented in France. This union is more than 50 years old, we are proud to be supported by the Ministry of Culture.
I’m taking over from someone who was a visionary in helping producers face streaming platforms, because the battle is a little tougher for independent producers. I also work for young people. (…) I want there to be a bridge between the Antilles and Africa that is a little more marked in terms of cinema. Within my union, the general director is Cameroonian, the deputy general director is Chadian. We’re not talking regarding diversity, we’re just people who want to do things for those who have a lack of visibility who want to get there without crushing others.
The union’s battle horse? Territorial continuity with the Overseas Territories. Its very important. We are banking on youth and the future of our young producers of documentaries, short films and films. We are also thinking regarding the future of cinema with digital, the metaverse and NFTs. Being from Martinique, the visibility of overseas territories in France is still not obvious. I will try to identify new producers, who all need help and networks so that overseas audiovisual and cinema projects are more visible in France. This is an important strategy. I hope that the overseas ministry will support us. (…) When I think of overseas cinema actors, I think of Lucien Jean-Baptiste or France Zobda, who has paved the way since 2005. She is a woman who worked to ensure that overseas people are visible to the public. television and in particular on France Télévision. She really struggled, so I support her.
