ERC Ingolstadt veteran forward Daniel Pietta has addressed the team’s challenging start to the season, acknowledging that the club’s current standing of nine points from eight games fails to meet internal expectations. Despite the bumpy start to the season, Pietta remains focused on tactical refinements rather than dwelling on the negative. He emphasized that every opponent in the league is capable, making it essential for the team to be fully prepared for every match.
Structural Adjustments and Tactical Focus
Pietta noted that the team has implemented specific adjustments to its defensive structure within its own zone. These changes, he explained, have already yielded measurable results, allowing the squad to limit prolonged pressure from opponents and preserve energy for their own offensive efforts. The veteran emphasized a return to the simpler, high-tempo style of play that characterized the team’s performance over the previous two seasons. He pointed to a recent victory in Munich as an example of how scoring at the right moments during pressure phases can boost confidence and increase pressure on rivals. Furthermore, Pietta defended the team’s defensive efforts, noting that they conceded only three goals plus a penalty over the weekend.
According to Pietta, the path to sustained stability relies on core virtues: winning physical battles, aggressive forechecking, and moving the puck directly toward the opposing goal. He highlighted that the team must maintain its composure even after conceding goals, keeping the pace high and continuing to apply pressure rather than being discouraged.
Addressing Team Atmosphere
While acknowledging that the mood among fans and the press has been a little grumpy
(a bit grumpy) due to the slow start, Pietta insisted that the internal climate of the locker room remains positive. He maintains that the most important factor is the cohesion of the players. Looking ahead, the team aims to build on their recent defensive improvements, with a clear goal of securing six points during the upcoming weekend to shift the current narrative surrounding the club.
